The Ender 3 V2 of Creality is a popular desktop 3D printer in the existing market released in early 2020. However, several users began to experience layer shifting during extended prints after purchasing machines in the second half of the year. After much research, it appears that a solution has been discovered.

In this article, we’ll give you several tips through a tutorial on how to fix a layer shift when you’re using the Ender 3V2.

At first, we take a look at why the layer shift.

The part being printed may move if the nozzle collides with it, causing layer shifting later in the process. When the shape of a print facilitates collisions, they are more likely to occur.

People who are asking how to fix layer shifting Ender 3 v2 can follow our following tutorial to remove the layer shifting issues.

How To Fix Ender 3 Layer Shift X-axis?

Layer shift X-axis is a very common mechanical trouble in your 3D printer.

There have we discussed Ender 3 layer shift X-axis troubleshooting. We can fix these problems in two ways. One way is fixing the Belt Tension and Checking the Pulleys and another is Stabilizing the Bed.

1. Fixing the Belt Tension and Checking the Pulleys

Improper belt tension is one of the main issues of layer shifting.

Okay, now we discuss about belts. Here too tight or too loose belt is not perfect for 3D printers. Likely, too much tight belt causes binding, and too much limp makes the belt trip over gear teeth, which causes layer shifting in 3D printing? So we have to unscrew the brackets that hold the bearings. Then we will fix the tension between the stepper motor and the bearing perfectly.

Besides this, we have to check the pulleys securely, which are held in place by the screws. We must ensure that the pulleys don’t slip.

The belts and the pulleys of 3D printers will normally loosen over time, so we need to check them periodically. Sometimes, we can replace the belt to adjust the tension. Here the Ender 3 V2 has upgraded with a tensioner of its own.

2. Stabilizing the Bed

The second problem of the Ender 3 layer shift X-axis is an unstable bed. So it is important to ensure enough stability of the bed. We should fix the eccentric nuts that are usually on the X-carriage.

Normally, the X-axis bed should slide evenly. So we can use a wrench to adjust the eccentric nuts on the rollers so that the bed can move smoothly.

Ender 3 Layer Shift At the Same Height

Layer shift is among the common 3D printing problems. Layer shift at the same height happens due to the printer’s acceleration in an axis at a higher rate than the printer’s capability. In this case, the printer needs oiling or belt-tightening. Other options include raising of current to the stepper or lowering the torque to the motor.

Here, you need to check the z rod to clarify any binding when it reaches the height. The z rod needs to raise the extruder properly, otherwise, the tool-head can get caught on the print and result in shifting. The tension of the x and y belts needs to be checked. There is a possibility of the printer going too fast.

To solve the issue here, slowing down print speed will help to avoid stutters while the print is taking place.

The issue can also be due to the clip. You might be using the clip for a decent period and due to constant use wear and tear kicked in. The clip may not be grabbing the glass down as firmly as it should. As a result, the used clip doesn’t have a good grip. So, during printing, nozzles touch the model and shift due to vibration.

Loose nozzles can also result in layer shifts at the same height.

One 3D print troubleshooting option is to tape up all four corners of the glass. The glass will remain in place and the heat of the bed will not affect them.

Low printing temperature can cause layer shifts at the same height. Some PLA can be printed at 180-degree temperatures and some may need to go up to 220, it depends on the manufacture differentiation and additives used in the previous layer.

Here, increasing the nozzle temperature will be helpful if the material isn’t sticking. Some materials need more temperature compared to others.

Ender 3 V2 Overheating Layer Shift

One of the most common causes of layer shifting is overheating your 3D printer. It may occur for a different reason.

Today I will share some tips to prevent layer shifting occurred by overheating.

It has been found that sometimes while a long time of printing, driver chips become very hot and occur layer shifting. You may not believe me but installing a fan is the best solution to the problem.

Though it’s not easy to say the exact reason for layer shifting, it has been assumed that version 4.2.2 motherboards show much more trouble than another version. To fix it you can upgrade the version to 4.2.7.

To avoid any error including overheating, you have to check your printer on regular basis. Make sure you are assembling the parts correctly and place the thermistor and heating cartridge inaccurate place. Don’t forget to lock them.

Must clean your printer regularly. It prevents raising many unusual problems.

Don’t set the printing temperature and printing speed too high. It often causes high heat.

Sometimes the printer can’t discharge the heat properly, as a result, the motherboard and other important equipment get hot and cause errors in printing. To solve this kind of error, you can use an extra fan to cool down your motherboard and maintain a proper venting system.

As the printer consumes high voltages of current while functioning often, it results in increasing high heat, which is harmful to both your printer and the printed object. Then all you need to do is just turn your printer off and take some time to restart it again.

Try not to cover your printer as it may cause increased heat. If you want to cover your printer, you can install a device that can monitor the temperature and a fan with the casing. Always be alert about the temperature report.

Conclusion

When the initial Ender 3 v2 was introduced, there was a problem with the plastic warping and pulling away from the bed due to layer shifting.

Some people were so fed up with it that they demanded a recall of the Ender 3 v2, claiming that Creality had overlooked the problem throughout their testing period.

This tutorial content shows you how to fix layer shifting ender 3 v2 by researching different tension settings on the X-axis, reducing layer lines by decreasing layer height and using a smaller nozzle diameter, controlling heating temperature and better mainboard cooling to eliminate the issue.

Moreover, the specific cause of the problem is unknown; possibly, a similar repair is what makes the V2 motherboard a winner. If you’ve found out what’s going on, move on to the next step.
